I.A.D Builds: Modular defense walls and random stuff.

An modular wall system of 8x8 blocks for colony and outpost inspired from old STR games, for changing from usual simple walls.
Personnaly one of the better way I have found for spending dirt and marble that overflow of my inventory.


Exist in 3 versions
Tier 1: Dirt & Marble
Tier 2: Marble & Steel
Tier 3: Iron & Aluminium

Include:
Turret base that can be linked to other parts on the 4 sides.
Two sides walls and corners.
One side walls and corners.
3 extensions (First alternative for increasing wall size or adapt it to the landscape. Second alternative is to use arrows and pg up & down for chosing the height of the wall and use extrude pg down on every selected square blocks only)[don't move mouse or biso position will reset]
2 entraces wide enough for bigger doors. (If you want to use doors, use previous method for selecting the height of the entrace while placing it)


These walls were mainly made with the slope tool, slope blocks cover more space than normal blocks for less resources.


Remarks and suggestions for improvement are welcome.

These are few random stuffs saved from my colony before a previous reset. Maybe you could find them some utility.

Landing platforms for small to medium aircrafts, medium to large aircrafts and smallest battleships.



Big Hangar side walls with inner frame and exterior frame. (without numbers)

Thanks for sharing your builds.  One quick note about modular buildings:  Since the biggest problem with colonies is dropped frame rate with large builds, anything that has a "thickness" of more than 2 blocks needs to be hollow inside.  Visually, I like the idea of anything that makes the buildings look massive and interesting, but they have to be built with attention to being massive looking, without actually being massive.  This is true with vehicle designs as well.

The effect of this can be noticed most when fast traveling, or when using rail lines.  When you arrive, you have to "wait" (stuck in place) until the entire colony loads.  The more massive your colony, the longer you are stuck.  The best architects should build the most fascinating things with the minimum amount of blocks.  Any block that is "interior" to the wall could and should be eliminated.

Thumbs up for sharing your designs.  You are definitely one of the best.

@Omnidawn: Hmmm, the author doesn't seem to be around anymore and sadly, the links are dead. Too bad as the IAD stuff looked pretty good. However, I found some similar work on the Planet Explorers ISO site made by a different author, it is okay, I guess.

I hate using the Steam Workshop. You have to log into Multiplayer and try to find it there as subscribing to the Workshop item doesn't work, ... and the Workshop images look terrible.

Your tip for building "hollow walls" is great, I hadn't thought of that.
