Colonists be given gathering/mining tasks

While I do find it handy being able to order my followers to go out harvesting/mining,  it would be handy to be able to task colonists with doing the same (especially to mine for a specific ore or gather a particular plant.)

having the colonists (and follower) directly deposit their goods into the colony storage would be handy as well, since the little barrels they dump at your feet (Or in mid air) can be hard to keep track of if you're gliding across the country side.

I want this,
but isn't it already an intended feature for the future?


I know some followers can already be ordered to go gather wood or herbs.

I think the colony should have an attributes TAB, which would be a collection of all badges that your colony members have. 

You would be able to click on them to open up their menu, for gatherers and miners you could click the check box to work if you haven't assigned them a job.

Weapon specialist, could have guard ,patrol, and follow check boxes .

And other NPCs could have many more new skills and boosts..

Wouldn't it be great if you could also use, for example, the selection tool in the build menu to drag out an area you want them to mine? Leave the colonists to mine areas and create your underground bunker? Hell yeah!

It would also be nice if we could see the skills a colonist has before recruiting them, that way we can select a variety of trained colonists to ensure we have minters, gathers, etc.. Those that are skilled laborers should give a larger bonus to the machines time cut than the regular non trained worker bees.

yeah that would be awesome to have in the build menu!

say a invisible block you could lay out ,than they would go dig it out for you.

even if it was a a reduced mineral return and it took them forever to do it, it would certainly solve getting  an area leveled off without those pesky accidental potholes :o


My biggest gripe with skilled NPCs isn't seeing there skills before hand. I have no problem putting down 4 new beds and going get new NPCs to fill them. When I get back to base I put the skilled ones on the right jobs and just keep the non-skilled ones as warm bodies for the machinery  time bonus.

My problem is when you find a fantastic NPC with massive skills early on, you keep them as a follower throughout the whole game, an when you finally get your base there is no easy way to add them to your base... there is always the chance that when you free them that they might disappear forever!

I wish you could just drag there follower icons to a bed slot...

While being able to pick the skills of NPCs for your team was possibly a luxury the intended colony would have, as fate would have it you are subject to the random number generator of who crashed with you.   Pathea intended that as they even made a change that NPCs are rolled at world creation so that you cannot save scum to reroll your NPCs right before you meet them, you have to restart the game.   Otherwise every replay becomes the same, the entire principle of the rogue-like survival genre is you never know what you will have to deal with for this replay.   

But doing a recruitment lineup to see what you have to potentially work with is a good idea.  It at least means you can recruit a miner IF one was rolled.

I know this is maybe a lot to ask, but my hope is that eventually your NPCs will pick up new skills and get better at them depending on where they are being used.  You could have lots of really skilled workers eventually by rotating them around, if they were able to "learn" up to five different skills (the number of skill spaces).

That was the intent, that the skills just be a starting bonus but you could train them up by having them do what you want them skilled in.  Though I think they should make that random, some people are really good at learning others are just old dogs, as that would offset the reasons not to do it which is min-maxers.

I would love to be able to select what my followers hunt and mine (checklist made from discovered resources or put one  of that type(s) of resource in their inventory maybe?)
I also second the idea of being able to recruit followers.
