The Scavenger Project
« on: July 15, 2013, 09:04:12 PM »

General idea behind this project is to create a dark and dirty theme for Planet Explorers a sort of go to place for all your post apocalyptic themed iso's. As much as I love the clean futuristic look I also enjoy the dark and grimy side of it too so this is here to satisfy that. If I'm the only on that contributes then so be it but i'm sure others like this style as well so feel free to chip in.

Right here is the back story

Back on earth things are not as perfect as they seem, there is a huge underclass forced to live in poverty off the scraps thrown to them by the more well off.

Tired of these conditions and hearing of a project to fly to maria a large group of these underclass came together to build their own ship and fly to Maria as well. Having brains and knowledge but not the resources or the finances to back a huge project themselves they used their cunning and scavenging skills to go to work on assembling their own ship to follow the rest of the fleet to maria in secret.

From the outside it looks like any normal fleet ship so as to disguise it as one of them. On the inside is a different story, the metal is rusting, the rooms are dirty and resources are barely enough to last the trip. But last the trip they did, in the confusion that brought down most of the main fleet they snuck off on their own course to carve themselves a little piece of maria. The landing was rough but they survived and used every last part of the ship to set up a base. They may lack the scripts and tech to build advanced vehicles and ships but using their ingenuity and make do and mend skills back on earth they have formed their own base and a new life, and they will do anything to protect and preserve it.

General rules for this project.

Vehicles
These must have a post apocalyptic feel to them, so rough and rusty looking (think mad max style). Mainly buggy style vehicles or cars and trucks that are maybe missing panels or repaired using parts of other vehicles and quite aggressive looking. Paint jobs can have scary looking pictures on them like clown faces, teeth or random symbols and graffiti although no bright colours or perfect paint jobs please. The only real exception  to the missing panels look would be heavy vehicles likes tanks and carrier ships just make them dark or aggressive.

Buildings
Can be things like tents, abandoned vehicles or industrial looking towers. Again quite dirty looking with exposed pipes, scaffolding or barrels and other scrap laying about if possible. It can be futuristic as long as its dystopian or industrial looking, no ultra modern or clean tower blocks and houses.

Guns
These can be futuristic or old looking as long as they again look a bit rough with paint wearing off in places or scopes that look like they belong to another weapon etc. Maybe heavy or unwieldy.

Swords
The style of these can be anything from an old bit of pipe to a huge spiky sword. As long as its dark and aggressive looking, think sci-fi punks.

Clothes
Just in case we get to design these they would be mainly be hard wearing materials like leather although you can be creative with this as long as its fits the themes above.

The above are just guidelines so don't treat them as strict rules and use your imagination.

If anyone has problems hosting the ISO files or pictures PM me and I will do it for you

Ideally I would love to make this a clan thing but I don't have the time to run a Clan or the funds for a server.

If anyone feels like adding to the back story then let me know, just write it in a reply or pm me and I will add to it.

Obviously being my Idea I will get the ball rolling, here are few ISO's I've created so far

This is main defense building

ISO > http://www.mediafire.com/?q5xk9fbn9x9y9zh

This is the dwellings, not the best conditions but they will survive :P

ISO > http://www.mediafire.com/?b8zlq8c678b456h

The flying contraption, it works although it is a little unstable but what do you expect

ISO > http://www.mediafire.com/?3bb6qkfe26k2os6

This is one I made previously but now updated to work with version 6.0

ISO > http://www.mediafire.com/?lve939d1158dp22

Lastly a spanner for fixing things and bashing the wild life over the head with

Latest addition, its a storage building but shaped like a sort of powerplant type thing. Gone for a more industrial look with this one

I wonder if the dev's might add an apocalyptic biome to help complete your project? That would be pretty sweet, though I guess a desert would suffice  8)

I think a desert would be the ideal place as the lack of resources there would make the vehicle and building style seem more realistic.

Does the storage building require so much iron because the spheres are solid?

I have been wanting a sizeable eraser brush with the same shapes to help hollow out objects!

I only seem to be able to select square shapes.

The spheres are hollow as the iron cost was in the 1000's when they were solid! Took me a while hollowing them out but I had too in order to keep the material cost down. Also agree we need a shaped eraser tool or just make all large shapes hollow as default. No reason they should be solid anyway.

I love this idea. I'm not much of a creator so I am sorry I can't contribute, but keep this theme alive!!
