Turning Speed is slow
« on: February 25, 2013, 09:39:37 PM »

Hello,

Just getting started on this game - looks fantastic so far. But my turning speed when holding down the right mouse button is very, very slow. I have to drag the mouse across the screen, bring it back and drag again to get even a 90 degree turn. Is there any way to adjust the sensitivity or am I missing something?

Thanks

Ehh...well, no, we don't have a sensitivity control yet.  :(

We'll try to put that in in the next alpha build.

Ha, well fair enough. Any idea what might be causing this? Am I in fact using the proper method for turning?

No, that's the correct way. The turn speed is decent on our PCs in the office, so we never thought about it...thanks for bringing it up.

I totally agree with corsair101. I was so excited to try this game, but the mouse sensitivity just was too slow for me. So I tried to play in first person but it was too buggy.

I hope this gets fixed asap! I really want to enjoy this game! :D

You LIE!!... I mentioned this ages ago when we still had the previous forums.
I think i also even brought it forward to this forums...

I have lost faith in you.... I shall SMITE thee again for this........

hehe Kidding xD

But yeah, just to add something ontop of what's been said (which is definatly in the forums somewhere) is to have the mouse LOCK to the screen when holding right mouse button, so that if you play windowed the mouse pointer doesn't go Miles off the to side of the screen everytime you turn the character.

Not sure if its planed in future updates, why not just have mouse sensitivity sliders ?

Oh and having full controller support would allow this game to be added into Steams "Big Picture" category for games.

Not that i would use controller over Mouse Keyboard, but as my kids say Mouse sucks for games.... sooo adding in controller support (i know its partially supported now) will definitely open the game to younger gamers. Which brings me back to steam on the PS3/PS4.... wow i have circular logic the past 2 days.

Just adding my own input.
Absolutely, one of the most needed tweaks, is that turning / camera panning speed.
With it in windowed mode at 1600x900 on my 1680x1050 screen, it takes crossing the whole screen -9 times- to turn a full 180.  That's kinda ridiculous.  Also, I might urge a camera mode that helps make said camera turn and follow the player, at least on a side to side level, with adjustable 'follow' speed.

That said.. loving playing with the new version, even if it's a pain to turn. :)

Glad I'm not the only one, I've been pulling my hair out trying to figure out a fix.

Forum joining bonus points round.

When you join up, post about an issue.. and -don't- take the time to make sure there's not a new patch out with camera sensitivity.  Heh.  Downloading a0.52 now to find out if this will solve my issue!  :)

So is the current slider good enough or do we need to push the speed up even higher?

Hello again - downloaded 0.52. This is a marked improvement for sure - I can now turn about 180 degrees with one "swing" of the mouse. Ideally the sensitivity should probably still be about twice that, the main advantage of using a mouse over a control pad is the 1:1 ratio of movement afforded. I feel like the camera is still sluggish in that regard.

Now, that being said, it's very playable at the moment and I'm looking forward to spending the rest of the night exploring. Thanks for the quick update guys! Looking forward to the rest :)

Oh yes, this is a -massive- improvement for my gameplay!
As it is, the top end of the slider is pretty much 'exactly' where I'd want it (and coincides with 1/3rd to 1/2 the way up on sensitivity for most games I play).  That said, you may wish to increase the maximum further for some folk.. but for me, it's spot on.  ^_^

I have noticed one interesting caveat though.  The slower I move the mouse when turning, the more turn distance I'll get out of the same mouse distance.  Not always a consistent experience, fast movement usually keeps up well, but still.  Interesting.. and not a negative impact for my play at all.  Thank you so much for tossing that in so fast! :)
