The Voxel Cache is supposed to improve performance in Adventure Mode when flying over terrain that has already been explored... correct? That was my understanding. However, according to everyone posting in the Voxel Cache / drive error Steam discussion, disabling this actually improved performance (or makes very little difference, as in my case).

To use the voxel cache or not is basically finding out what's a bigger bottle neck; your CPU or your storage sub-system. In very simplistic terms your CPU will be able to calculate voxels at a certain rate, your disk sub-system will be able to read/write voxels at a certain rate. You have to find the one that produces more voxels per unit of time. If your CPU can calculate more voxels than the disk sub-system can deliver then it'll be faster turning the cache off. This isn't a bugged or broken caching, it's just the performance balance of that system.

For me, my SSD is about 2x faster at delivering voxels than the CPU, hence why I can do 280km/h over explored terrain but 135km/h over unexplored terrain. If  were to only have my rotational drive, it would be faster to turn the voxel cache off.

From messing about terrain travel speed can be limited by CPU & media speed.

For reference on an i5-7600K @ 4.4GHz & a 330k IOPs NVMe SSD I can cruise at, a cpu limited, 130~135km/h on unexplored terrain with very minor pausing. Over explored terrain I'm able to travel at around 280km/h, which seems to be SSD limited, before significant glitching occurs. With my voxel cache on a rotational drive it's more like 45~50km/h & 80~90km/h, which is HDD limited in both cases.

Some further information on 2 comments

21.  Starting day 1 month 2, sparring and gift options are greyed out when talking to people.  I have tried loading save from Day 28 Month 1 and sleep.  Then on Day 1 Month 2, those options are still greyed out.  On Day 28 Month 1, sparring and gifting still work fine.

If you have gifted or sparred with someone once in a month you'll never be able to gift or spar with them in following months. Also once you have chatted with someone you'll not gain any relationship points for chatting in following months.

22.  On Sundays, when trees respawn, sometimes the trees don't have blue life bars.  Swinging an axe on these trees is like hitting air.  Loading a save from previous day and sleep seems to fix this probem.  I try to reproduce invincible trees by loading my save on day 28 month 1.  One in several tries these trees appear lol.

For me once a tree can't be chopped then I never can chop it down again. This happens on day 2.1 for the trees a stone axe can chop down, then the following Sunday, day 2.8, then some trees which require the bronze axe can't be chopped down. I think that I can only chop down the trees with lighter foliage. For your information here are all the trees that can't be chopped down around my house.

I assume that's output_log.txt (I don't have an output.txt).
As the file upload failed I've pastebined it  -

Update: It's completing any mission after completing the power plant mission.

I'll happily upload save games/crash logs if you let me know where they are.

Update: I only get a crash if I've completed a 3rd dee-dee.

My Time At Portia Bugs / Handing 3 data disks to petra causes a crash
« on: September 09, 2017, 08:43:25 AM »
Every time I hand Petra 3 data disks (of my 21) the game crashes. I've tried in the research centre & also when she's outside on the bench reading.

I've also noticed that the game gets a little confused with non-commission missions when starting a new game after loading a previous one. Eg. on the day 4 I got the second of Emily's chick missions without doing the first one.

I've just hit this too. I started the game did a week or so to get a feel for the mechanics and started a new game. The result:

Obviously this is before I've been allowed to do anything so couldn't have upgraded the shop, named it, etc. However we can clearly see the shop is named at this point. Also, there is a storage box (which had various items in it) next to the assembly platform and a stone furnace in the background between Presley's head and the house. There was also another storage box & sofa in the house.

I can reproduce this with the following sequence of events:
1. From within an active game load a previous game
2. Without completing or picking up a new commission exit to the main menu
3. Start a new game from the main menu.

Planet Explorers General Discussion / Voxel cache space usage?
« on: August 30, 2017, 05:25:27 PM »
Does anyone have an idea how much space it needed have a voxel cache for an entire 40x40km map? Keep on having to clear my voxel cache which I'd prefer not to do.

Planet Explorers General Discussion / Re: Mining
« on: August 30, 2017, 05:02:14 PM »
I seem to remember that a wooden pickaxe, without any player enhancements, you'll need about 20 hits to mine 1 voxel of aluminium ore. I'd upgrade to a minimum of a copper pickaxe.

Here's a save game from when the attack timer started, in 1.0.9.

I'm not sure how useful this will be. I can load this save game again and everything will be okay, that's how I get around the issue, save when an attack starts then after a number of attacks reload the save game. it's only the first time the attack starts I occasionally get a never ending loop.

Planet Explorers Suggestions / Motorbike rider positions
« on: May 08, 2017, 01:53:52 PM »
It would be nice if there was either all 3 of the basic rider position options or at lest the "feet under & upright" position was available. The 3 basic rider seat positons on a motorbike are:
1. Feet forwards - the cruiser/touring positon. (Bottom right - the riding position in PE)
2. Feet under & upright - used on naked, adventure, supermoto... (Left, both top & bottom)
3. Feet under & prone - as seen on super sports,  most sci-fi style bikes also the more aggressive naked & sports touring can also be quite prone. (Top right)
see 1/3 down the page here for nice pictures.

Planet Explorers ISOs / Re: Material Calculation
« on: May 04, 2017, 08:47:31 PM »
True, but there are a lot of Blocks/voxel you can put down before you reach that 200% border. Wood especially is a good material to get more mass(low accuracy increase) without losing to much dmg, gold is ideal to raise accuracy if your weapon isn't big enough, so this data will at least help a bit while creating guns and rifles.
Sorry, but I can't confirm your "gold theory".
I went through days of testing myself, too. Aluminium is the best material to use for weapons and only diamond comes close. Everything else will drop your accuracy like mad.
I know this is an old post but I want to counter Felonius' argument.

The key here is "if your gun isn't big enough". This is taken from a 7250 voxels gun, in aluminium it weights 4.16kg or 4.86km in Diamond. I don't want to make the gun bigger but I want more accuracy without loss of damage or durability. so I at the heaviest material, gold. The stats in gold doesn't look great on its own but look what happens when you make 10% of the gun gold.

 - Damage: 88.4
 - Durability: 52
 - Accuracy: 62.4%

 - Damage: 87.8
 - Durability: 51
 - Accuracy: 50%

 - Damage: 85.4
 - Durability: 45
 - Accuracy: 114.7%

Diamond (90%)/Gold (10%)
 - Damage: 88.1
 - Durability: 52
 - Accuracy: 91.1%

^^ This. Took me less than 10 minutes to harvest resin in a 2x2km map set to rainforest. That said it would be nice if, say, Euphorbia was in every biome.
